ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND TRANSPORTATION:
Morgan State University through the School of Engineering and the Institute For Urban Research has received Phase III funding for the development of an Environmental Justice Toolkit. The Phase III plan for funding assistance is to complete the development and dissemination of Volume II of the Environmental Justice in Transportation (EJT) Toolkit. Having completed the Baltimore Region Environmental Justice and Transportation Project Toolkit Volume I and a draft of the Transportation Equity Cooperative Research Program (TECRP) Environmental Justice and Transportation Project Toolkit Volume II).
This research effort responds to the unfulfilled needs of previous NCHPR research work that links underserved populations with environmental justice, public participation, transportation and housing. This Tool Kit advances that effort and takes the form of a practitioners' manual of technical and procedural methods for systematically understanding and meeting federal transportation and environmental title VI requirements for meaningful participation of traditionally underserved populations in the transportation planning and decision making process. The experience gained from previous and current research will directly contribute to the development of Environmental Justice and Transportation across the broad academic spectrum at Morgan State University.
