PILOT PROJECT

Mrs. Charlotte Stewart St. Pierre has received approval to undertake her Pilot Project at Learning Inc. The project which is aimed at helping at-risk youth, runs throughout the 2009-2010 academic year.

About Learning Inc.,

Learning Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to re-engage Baltimore City at-risk adolescents in the process of education and to provide them with academic and life skills so that they may grow into caring and responsible adults with economic opportunity. Learning Inc. works with the students who the schools have all but given up on and who have all but given up on school. Despite being 14 to 18 years old, they are often at academic levels much lower than middle-school. For many of our students, we are their last chance before ending up on the streets, in prison or worse. Learning Inc. implements programs to support educational and youth development opportunities for out of school and adjudicated youth to ensure re-entry into the community and reconnection to school.

Ms. Stewart St. Pierre’s well organized program will give young adults both the support and the training they need and will prove authentic role models for young at risk teens. She will work to provide middle and high school youth with innovative hands-on activities and tools to help them develop a more positive self-image that promotes positive self-esteem, healthy relationships with others, and increases their school performance and success in life. By giving young adults both the support and the training they need, the program will provide authentic role models for young at risk teens.

"Our students have difficult histories, but at Learning Inc. they learn that they have the power to change their futures. We often are their last resort and Charlotte Stewart St. Pierre’s program is a perfect fit. This is a very exciting program and I look forward to working with her to ensure the success of both our missions." - Judith S. Friedman, Executive Director, Learning Inc.
